How to Experience True Love When You Feel Unloved in Marriage

When the LORD saw that Leah was unloved, he enabled her to have children,”

– Genesis 29:31 (NLT)

A day like Valentine’s day can be especially difficult when you are in a situation that seems unfair or where you feel unloved in marriage most days of the year.

So, I wanted to take some time to encourage you today.

During an especially difficult season in my marriage, as I was spending time in the Word, that verse in Genesis (29:31) really stood out for me.

Growing up, I always imagined that I would be a Rachel – in a marriage where I was loved, where I felt loved. But instead, I found myself relating more to Leah. Through no fault of her own, she found herself in a loveless marriage.

But notice what the text says, When the LORD saw that Leah was unloved

It was at that moment that I got the revelation that wow, even though I’m going through this and feel like this, God sees me!

And the good news is, God sees you too, lovely lady!

Just as He saw Haggar (another unloved woman in the Bible who was in a situation through no fault of her own) in Genesis 16:11-13.

And not only does God see you but He wants to bless you! Right now, in the midst of your circumstances. Not someday. But right now.

God, Who is LOVE Himself, was so moved with compassion for Leah, that He blessed her with children.

In the same way, I believe that God has a blessing for you. It may not be children but it is something He knows will minister to you personally.

The problem is, when you’re in a hurting situation it can be very hard to see the blessing or vision He has for you or to hear Him clearly.

Even after God blessed Leah, she kept thinking of her pain and looking to her husband – trying to gain his love and approval. Just look at the names she gave to her sons and the meanings:

  • Reuben – “The LORD has noticed my misery, and now my husband will love me.”
  • Simeon – “The LORD heard that I was unloved and has given me another son.”
  • Levi – “Surely this time my husband will feel affection for me, since I have given him three sons!”

But I believe something transformational happened for Leah between her third and fourth sons…

Once again Leah became pregnant and gave birth to another son. She named him Judah, for she said, “Now I will praise the LORD!” And then she stopped having children.”

– Genesis 29:35 (NLT)

Notice that the name she gave her fourth son, Judah, was focused entirely on the LORD and not her husband.

Notice also that “she stopped having children.”

Recall the connection between feeling unloved and having children for Leah.

I believe she stopped having children because she finally got it. She finally stopped feeling unloved because she received a personal revelation and clarity on God’s perfect love for her.

Sis, one word from God or an encounter with Him will change your life.

It’s what has allowed me to thrive in the midst of difficult situations. Let me tell you, I’m experiencing such peace, love, and joy in the midst of uncertainty.

And that’s what I want for you too.

So, I encourage you to spend time with God in His Word and in His presence and ask Him to give you a fresh revelation of His love for you personally.

And if this is something that is difficult for you then I’d love to partner and come alongside you.

God has blessed me with the gift and ability to hear from Him and to guide others in personal encounters with Him.

That’s why I have set aside time on my calendar to guide you through a personal love encounter with God.

  • Maybe you’re feeling unloved by God…
  • Have difficulty hearing from Him…
  • Have a health issue…
  • Conflict in your marriage or other relationship …

Then this session is designed to refresh you and help you receive clarity and breakthrough.
